The process to name the first school to open in Gwinnett County Public Schools in two years has begun.
The new middle school in the Peachtree Ridge cluster, located at 1221 Northbrook Parkway in Suwanee, is scheduled to open in August. Two parents and an educator from the Hull Middle school zone make up the school naming commitee, which is tasked with developing a list of recommended names to submit to Superintendent/CEO J. Alvin Wilbanks.
The committee’s work has already begun, Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said, and it will take under consideration several items. Among them, people who have made a significant social contribution, names of communities served by the school, roads, landmarks and geographical locations in proximity of the school.
Potential names for the new school may be submitted through Nov. 5, and the Board of Education is expected to vote on Wilbanks’ recommendations for the new school at the Nov. 21 Board meeting.
Information about submitting names is available on the school district’s web site and at Hull Middle which is the school that will be relieved when the new school is built.
