NORCROSS — After dropping the first set to GAC, the Wesleyan volleyball team rebounded for a 3-1 win over the host Spartans to claim the Area 6-AA championship.
The Spartans won the first game 25-19 before the Wolves came back to take three straight 25-18, 25-15, 26-24.
Lauren Frerking led Wesleyan with 15 kills and 20 digs, Kendra Coetter added 40 assists and 16 digs, Lauren Alexander had 18 digs, Hannah Hoskins had 24 digs and Noni Thompkins chipped in four blocks.
For GAC (23-18), Madison Kerr had nine kills, 26 assists and 15 digs, Kathryn Wilson had seven kills and five blocks, Michaela Bailey had six kills and Emily Becker had 38 digs.
Norcross cruises past Alcovy
CONYERS — Led by four aces in two games by Meg Boucher, Norcross’ volleyball team cruised to a win over Alcovy in the first round of the Area 8-AAAAAA tournament.
The Devils’ (30-14) MaKenzie White, Shelby King and Resa Knott all added four kills in the 25-5, 25-3 win.
Shiloh’s season ends
CONYERS — Briana Stith had four digs and a block but it wasn’t enough against host Rockdale in the first round of the Area 8-AAAAAA tournament.
In the second game the senior Stith turned in three aces, two kills and eight digs in a season-ending loss to Meadowcreek
Shiloh (4-33) fell to Rockdale 25-11, 25-5 despite five digs from Kinsasha Bell and three blocks from Angelique Little. In the elimination game, Bell added a pair of kills, two blocks and five digs and Javacia Elscerry added two aces and three digs in a 25-18, 25-17 loss to the Mustangs.
Buford third in Area 5-AAA
GAINESVILLE — Buford picked up wins over West Hall and North Hall to finish third in the Area 5-AAA.
The Wolves didn’t drop a game in either match, beating West Hall 25-11, 25-18 and North Hall 25-19, 21.
Maggie Roper had 15 kills and 15 digs and Mikhayla Riegel had 19 digs for the Wolves with both players representing Buford on the All-Area team. Gabby Curry added 14 kills and 10 digs and Morgan Mitchell dished out 38 assists for Buford (32-10).
Lanier sweeps Madison Co.
MONROE — Tori Wyant had 15 assits to lead Lanier to a 25-17, 25-14 sweep of Madison County in the first round of the Area 8-AAAA tournament.
Victoria Inman added seven kills in the two games for the Longhorns (19-14) who play Chestatee on Saturday.
Hebron advances in 6-A tourney
LILBURN — Led by 16 kills from Ashleigh Thomas and 11 from Bridgette Oduro, Hebron took down Athens Christian 25-6, 25-10 and Prince Avenue 25-20, 25-10 to advance in the Area 6-A tournament.
Madi Grace Easterling tallied 46 assists for the Storm (37-8).
Buford 15, East Hall 0
GAINESVILLE — Morgan Walters crushed two of Buford’s three home runs as the Wolves sailed to a 15-0 win in three innings over East Hall to win the Region 7-AAA championship.
Walters finished the game 2-for-3 with five RBIs and scored three runs. Noah Sudderth hit the other Buford homer, a three-run shot on a 1-for-2 night. Tessa Daniels and Remmington Hasty each went 2-for-3 in the lopsided win.
On the mound, Bria Bush (12-1) notched her 11th complete game and eighth shutout, allowing one hit and striking out one in a quick three innings.
Athens Christian 6, Providence 2
NICHOLSON — After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a double by Katy Barry, the Providence bats went silent in a 6-2 loss in the Region 8-A tournament.
Barry’s double scored MacKenzie and Brittany Tuttle who each had a hit in the game. Abigail Roberson added the fourth hit for the Storm (12-17) who play in an elimination game today.
