Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs (8-AAAAA)

Coach: David Wagner

Record: 1-4, 0-3 region

Last week: Lost to Heritage 23-13

Winder-Barrow coach David Wagner believes last week’s loss serves as a prime example of how close the Bulldoggs are to really turning things around.

They led 7-3 and had possession of the ball late in the first half when a brief series of mistakes led to a score that allowed Heritage to take the lead heading into halftime.

“Two dropped passes and a fumbled snap and suddenly we’re down 10-7 at the half,” Wagner said. “It’s the difference of (possibly) being up 14-3. It seems like every time we’re on the verge (of taking a step forward), we have that one mistake that swings the game (in the opponent’s) favor.”

Wagner knows that can’t happen again if they Bulldoggs are to have a chance at knocking off Flowery Branch and its explosive offense, led by quarterback Jackson McDonald, receiver Cameron Davis and running back Jemon Randolph.

“They’re just good everywhere,” Wagner said of the Falcons. “They run a bunch of different formations on offense, and they’re very sound of defense. As explosive as they are, we can’t make those mistakes and continue to give them cheap points."

That will be the challenge for the Bulldoggs’ defense, offense, which must do a better job of holding on to the ball to offense, aid a defense led by linebacker Soloman Sims.
