DACULA — Top seed Brookwood moved into the semifinals with a 25-10, 25-8 win over Dacula in Area 7-AAAAAA tournament play. Maryka Zee had five kills, Jordan Shipman had 20 assists, Amelia Collins had nine aces and Janet Galvez had six kills for the Broncos (20-20). Parkview also moved into the semifinals with a pair of wins as the Panthers defeated Central Gwinnett 25-11, 25-21 and Archer 25-18, 25-13. Rachel Rust had 15 digs, eight kills and six aces for Parkview (16-20) while Cori Harber had 19 assists, six digs, five kills, four aces and a block. Maddie Dean added four kills, a block and a dig for the Panthers.
Archer stays alive in Area 7-AAAAAA tournament
DACULA — Archer went 2-1 on the opening day of the Area 7-AAAAAA tournament as the Tigers defeated Berkmar 25-11, 25-10 and Grayson 25-15, 25-17 while falling to Parkview 25-18, 25-13. Danae Jones had 20 kills and two aces while Lanisha Thomas had 12 kills for Archer (18-22). Tiffany Cash added 40 assists and nine aces and Breanna Ashekun had six kills for the Tigers.
North Gwinnett tops Mountain View
DULUTH — Alyssa Munlyn had 10 kills and four blocks and Taylor Spence and Natalie Stout each had seven kills as North Gwinnett defeated Mountain View 25-18, 25-15 in Area 6-AAAAAA tournament action. McKenzie Major added 23 assists for the Bulldogs.
Meadowcreek gets by Shiloh
NORCROSS — Meadowcreek defeated Shiloh in Area 8-AAAAAA action by a 25-14, 28-30, 25-18 score. Briana Stith led Shiloh (4-32) with 15 digs and three aces while Kinsasha Bell had nine digs and five blocks and Keia Evans had five digs and an ace for the Generals.
Lanier wins twice
GAINESVILLE — Lanier took home a pair of wins as the Longhorns defeated Johnson, Gainesville 25-8, 25-17 and Flowery Branch 25-15, 25-20 in regular-season play. Tori Wyant had 21 assists and 18 service points while Jordyn Cruz had seven kills and seven service points for the Longhorns (18-12), who begin region tournament play Thursday at Monroe Area.
Buford splits at Area 5-AAA tournament
ROSWELL — Buford knocked off East Hall 25-12, 25-16, but lost to Blessed Trinity 25-18, 25-18 in Area 5-AAA tournament action. Maggie Roper led the Buford attack with 22 digs and 18 kills. Gabby Curry added 16 kills and Morgan Mitchell had 26 assists for the Wolves (30-10).
Wesleyan, GAC set for Area 6-AA championship match
TIGER — Wesleyan rolled to an easy 25-8, 25-6 win over Rabun County in Area 6-AA action to advance to Thursday’s championship match at Greater Atlanta Christian, which knocked off Jefferson 25-21, 25-20.
Kendra Koetter had 18 assists and seven digs while Lauren Frerking had five kills and four aces for Wesleyan (32-10). Ashley Moody added five kills and Emma Bivings had four kills and four digs for the Wolves. GAC was paced by Lauren Brown’s six kills and Jaimisha Patel had six digs and two blocks. Emily Becker added 10 digs and two aces while Madison Kerr had 12 assists and four kills for the Spartans (23-17).
Dacula 7, Parkview 2
SNELLVILLE — Winning pitcher Kendra Pfister struck out seven and also went 3-for-3 at the plate as Dacula defeated Parkview 7-2 in the Region 8-AAAAAA tournament. Kristan Lizardi went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Sabrina Sieber went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for Dacula in the winning effort. Sam Kates, Alexis Deadwyler and Shania Norman each had a hit and an RBI for the Falcons (19-5), who move on to play the Grayson-Shiloh winner.
Grayson 12, Shiloh 0
SNELLVILLE — Breanna Ethridge allowed just two hits and struck out seven in the circle as Grayson blanked Shiloh 12-0 in four innings at the Region 8-AAAAAA tournament. Ethridge also went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Stephanie Snyder had a 3-for-4 night and drove in three runs while Jen Spangler was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Peyton Glover was 3-for-3 as the Rams (17-12) pounded out 15 hits.
Mill Creek 6, Peachtree Ridge 2
HOSCHTON — Sklylar Hayward (9-3) went 6 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits as Mill Creek defeated Peachtree Ridge 6-2 in Region 7-AAAAAA tournament play. Kaitlyn Howell got the save for Mill Creek. Emily Robertson went 2-for-3 at the plate and Emilie Lawrence was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Hawks (22-6). Christina Evans added an RBI single and Kaylyn Anthony drove in two runs with a double.
North Gwinnett 2, Collins Hill 1
SUWANEE — Kaitlyn Andrews drove in the eventually winning runs with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning as North Gwinnett edged Collins Hill 2-1 in the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament. Moriah Strother and Emily Dennis each had a hit for the Bulldogs while Hannah Harrison got the win in the circle with eight innings of work. Harrison allowed five hits while striking out nine and walking two for North (22-4). Amanda Chance took the tough-luck loss in the circle for Collins Hill, allowing just three hits and striking out six and didn’t walk a batter. Brea Dickey had an RBI double for Collins Hill. The two teams play again Thursday.
Norcross splits two
MT. AIRY — Norcross took care of business in the first game of the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament as the Blue Devils blanked Duluth 7-0. But the news wasn’t as good in the second game as Norcross fell to Habersham Central 5-4 in nine innings. Vanessa Bradford got the complete-game win in opening game, allowing just two hits and striking out four. Bradford also added a hit. Hannah Laury went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Jacqueline O’Reilly was 3-for-4 for Norcross. Rickary Holloman, Ally Shores, Kelly Schmidt and Jessee Hoge each had a hit for the Blue Devils. Laury and Holloman each went 2-for-4 for Norcross in the second game while Mackenzie Bradford and Vanessa Bradford added a hit. Frankie Cantrell had a sacrifice fly for the Blue Devils (12-18).
Buford 8, East Hall 0
GAINESVILLE — Bria Bush notched her 10th complete game and seventh shutout of the season in the circle as Buford rolled to an 8-0 victory over East Hall in Region 7-AAA tournament play at Lanier Point Park.
Bush (11-1) allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked three as Buford improved to 28-1 overall. Sydney Stavro was 2-for-2 with two RBI, two stolen bases and scored a run while Niki Cook went 2-for-3 with a triple and two stolen bases for the Wolves. Baylee Sexton and Jordan Deep each had a hit for Buford, which advanced to Thursday’s championship game.
Wesleyan 16, Westminster 5
ATLANTA — Wesleyan scored six runs in the first inning and added eight more in the second as the Wolves pounded Westminster 16-5 in five innings at the Region 6-AA tournament. Dacia Jones picked up the win in the circle while allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out two. Jones also went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Landyn Duley was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a pair of stolen bases for Wesleyan (18-7), which moves into the championship game. Emily Farrow and Meredith DiStansi each had two hits and two RBI for the 15-hit attack.
