HEALTH BRIEFS: Gwinnett Medical hires family medicine program director

Gwinnett Medical Center hires family medicine program director for graduate medical program

Gwinnett Medical Center has announced the hiring of Kevin Johnson, MD, FAAFP, as the director of family medicine residency for the facility’s Graduate Medical Education Program. Johnson’s primary role is to develop the residency teaching program.

“As a physician who practiced in rural America, Dr. Johnson understands the complex nature of family medicine and the wide skill set needed,” Mark Darrow, director of GMC’s Graduate Medical Education, said in a news release. “He will educate the resident physicians about the care of every member of the family and they will get the opportunity to develop and manage a practice of their own while in training.”

Johnson will guide the development of a curriculum highlighting the diverse medical specialties covered by family medicine. In June 2014, the first class of five future family physicians will start their three-year residencies.
