Kevin Shaffer and his coaching staff took a heavy part of the blame for last week’s region-opening loss to Pinecrest, and the first-year Hebron head coach spent a week working on fixing the teaching errors that led to his players’ mistakes last Friday.

“We’re coming off a disappointing game last week,” Shaffer said. “It was a game we felt like we should have won.”

While Hebron matched up more evenly with Pinecrest, it will go in as an underdog against big and strong George Walton. The Bulldogs, who lost a tough one to Commerce in their region opener, are led by star running back Stanley Williams. The Kentucky commitment, who began his high school career at Apalachee in Barrow County, carried 17 times for 211 yards in the loss to Commerce.

“They’ve definitely got a pretty good team,” Shaffer said of George Walton. “They’ve got some big guys and I feel like it will be a good challenge. We made some adjustments from last week that we think will help us, but they’ve got a well-coached and big team. It’s going to be a huge test.”

Despite last week’s loss, Hebron got another solid effort on defense from Jay Wallo. Offensive guard Ben Converse had a solid game up front, while receivers Jacob Harper, Trey Selman and Matthew Glisson continue to do a steady job for young quarterback Connor Holliday.

The Lions have lost two straight since season-opening wins over Lakeview and Cross Keys.

Last meeting: George Walton won 52-10 last year
