Deborah Lowery Godwin, age 61, of Lilburn, Georgia, entered into rest on Thursday, September 26, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Roger Godwin; daughter, Meredith Godwin Kurland of Snellville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Pamela Godwin Popham (Michael) of Lilburn, GA; two grandsons, Nicholas and Benjamin Popham; brother, David Lowery (Debbie); niece, Jennifer; nephew, Michael; and other relatives, and a host of friends.
Deborah was born in Columbia, SC on May 13, 1952 to Thelma Louise Bennett Lowery and Jerry Berter Lowery. She graduated from Norland High School in Miami, attended Valdosta State and went to Atlanta Law School. She received her Master Degree in Education from Georgia State University and went on to receive her Specialist Education Degree from the University of Georgia. Deborah taught at Jolly Elementary, was an assistant principal at Nancy Creek Elementary, and retired as principal of Chamblee Middle School from the Dekalb Co. School System. She loved to read and her greatest joy and love in life was her family, especially her two grandsons. Deborah was devoted to educating children and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The Service Honoring the Life of Deborah L. Godwin will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 7:30 P.M. at Mountain Park First Baptist Church, 5485 Five Forks Trickum Rd., Stone Mountain, GA 30087 with Pastor Doug Cox officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the AFLAC Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, 1687 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 in memory of Deborah Lowery Godwin.
