Gwinnett County firefighters and the Georgia State Patrol responded to a crash on Tuesday morning when two tractor trailers collided on Interstate 85 southbound and left the roadway.
The collision happened just north of Hamilton Mill Road at just after 10 a.m. The crash caused a heavy fire in the cab of one tractor, and on the trailer of the other tractor. All lanes were blocked for about three hours. One lane was re-opened at about 1:30 p.m., however, the Georgia Department of Transportation said the second lane did not open until 7 p.m.
Gwinnett Fire Lt. Colin Rhoden said firefighters deployed a Water Tender Truck that carries 3,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. Rhoden said one driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other driver was treated and released at the scene.
Rhoden said one truck pulled electronic equipment, while the second pulled a travel trailer.
