BUFORD — The Thanksgiving turkey hasn’t been cut yet, but Lake Lanier Island Resort is ready for the holiday season.
The Buford destination’s 21st annual Magical Nights of Lights opens tonight with thousands of lights — and then some.
When the sun goes down, the lights go up at the famed animated holiday-themed light show, which weaves throughout the 1,500-acre lakeside resort.
A number of festive fan-favorite displays have returned, including the twinkling lights of the shimmering Snowflake Bridge, an illuminated interpretation of the 12 Days of Christmas and a sneak peek at the elves at work in Santa’s Workshop.
The dancing lights of Holiday House and the Diamond Wonder Light, which debuted last year, are also back on the trail.
Besides lights, there are several other activities for people of all ages.
The stop along the route features bonfires for roasting marshmallows, vendors selling hot cocoa, a petting zoo and pony rides, carnival rides and games, holiday shopping, an ice skating rink and a chance to visit with Santa Claus.
Before leaving the resort, guests can look at a live Nativity, presented by Kaleidoscope Productions. The Nativity is an authentic representation of the First Christmas, complete with live animals. Performances of the live Nativity will run nightly from Nov. 30 through Dec. 24.
