Lilburn to relocate Public Works fleet maintenance, impound storage lot

LILBURN — The city of Lilburn will soon have a new place to house its Public Works fleet maintenance division and the Public Safety Department’s impound storage lot.

Action on the relocation to 4428 Lilburn Industrial Way was unanimously approved Monday night by the City Council.

“We wanted to move the maintenance shed out of the center of the city,” Mayor Johnny Crist said.

The city plans to use $715,000 in 2009 SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) money to purchase the two-acre property, and no funds will be borrowed and no interest incurred.

Plans are to close on the property in December, and move in around Jan. 1.

The Council also decided to grant the request of the Lilburn Community Partnership to lease the Wynne-Russell House on U.S. Highway 29 for use as the group’s base of operation, and make it available to nonprofit and other organizations for various events, including weddings. LCP has signed a three-year lease on the property, and will take over the maintenance of the house.

In other business, the Council:

• Granted Gwinnett Water Resource an easement to replace the water line along Main Street with construction to begin in March. “This is long overdue,” Councilman Tim Dunn said.

• Granted Georgia Power Company two easements to install guy wires on city property at Church Street near the entrance of the building site of the proposed City Hall/Library complex, and at Main Street and U.S. Highway 29.

Crist also announced the following events: annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, a free event, Nov. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at City Hall; Lilburn Christmas Parade, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. with Santa and Mrs. Clause available for photo opportunities after the parade; and Can Collection for Lilburn Co-Op from Nov. 22 through 30. Cans can be dropped off at City Hall during normal business hours or brought to the tree lighting. Crist also noted that the grand opening of the 1910 Public House (located in the old Blue Rooster location) was held Monday.
