Gwinnett transit bus involved in fatal wreck

A Gwinnett Transit bus was involved in a fatal downtown Atlanta accident Monday.

Atlanta Police spokesman Officer John Chafee confirmed that the transit bus and a FedEx truck collided and slammed into a building near the intersection of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Central Avenue. The driver of the truck was killed, Chafee said.

Reports speculated that the driver of the Gwinnett County Transit bus — which was empty — ran a red light and caused the crash. That driver was reportedly hospitalized.

“Our accident investigation unit has been notified and is investigating,” Chafee said.
