Mountain View’s Iceis Walker

Mountain View’s Iceis Walker

COACH: Jackie Lindquist

2012-13 RECORD: 18-10

D’Andra Pringle, 5-7, Jr.

Iceis Walker, 5-5, Jr.

Aneysa Williams, 5-5, Jr.

Jordan Stallworth, 6-2, Soph.

Arianna Williams, 5-8, Jr.

Kennedy Stanciel, 5-10, Sr.

OUTLOOK: Entering its fifth season, Mountain View’s program is on solid ground and is coming off the best showing in school history. The up-tempo Bears, who have been stout defensively, have a group of regulars back from its first state tournament team. The returnees include a trio of juniors who are proven players in D’Andra Pringle, Iceis Walker and Aneysa Williams. Post Jordan Stallworth, one of the area’s top young interior players, also is building off a big freshman season, while head coach Jackie Lindquist also sees Arianna Williams and Kennedy Stanciel as being key members of the rotation.

WORTH NOTING: The Bears’ 18 wins set a new school record, topping the previous best of 11 from 2011-12. Their first state playoff berth was exciting and it came via a 52-51 win over rival Mill Creek, a program they hadn’t beaten until last season. After losing to eventual state champion Norcross in the region tourney semifinals, they bounced back to beat Duluth 77-76 in overtime to take third in tough 7-AAAAAA. Mountain View lost its state tourney debut, though, falling to North Forsyth. … The early-season schedule will be tough for the Bears, who open up with a strong Archer team and follow it up with the always tough Parkview Tip-Off Classic. … Lindquist, the only coach in program history, won a state title in 2001 as a Central Gwinnett assistant.

FAST FACT: Mountain View has gotten off to strong starts the past few seasons. The team posted four wins to open the 2012-13 season as part of a 10-3 start, which came on the heels of an 8-1 start to the 2011-12 season.
