Dacula Boys Basketball Season Preview

COACH: Russ Triaga

2012-13 RECORD: 19-10

RETURNING REGULARS:

Kevon Tucker, 6-3, Soph.

Logan MacIntyre, 6-4, Jr.

Zentavious Cobb, 6-3, Sr.

OTHERS TO WATCH:

Cam Moye, 6-2, Sr.

Keshawn Gibbs, 6-2, Jr.

OUTLOOK: Two of Dacula’s big three scorers off last season’s state tournament team — Jaylen Williams (15.6 ppg) and Brandon Goodson (14.8 ppg) — have graduated. That leaves sophomore Kevon Tucker as the top returning offensive option, but he proved in his first high school season that he’s capable of producing points in bunches. The athletic guard averaged 13.8 points in his debut high school season. He is joined by a pair of other returning regulars, 6-4 Logan MacIntyre and 6-3 Zentavious Cobb. A pair of transfers also will give the team a major boost. Cam Moye moved in from South Gwinnett and Keshawn Gibbs, who averaged 7.7 points as a St. Francis sophomore, also is new to the team.

WORTH NOTING: Gibbs began his high school career at private St. Francis, but returned to where he played his middle school basketball. He was a star at Dacula Middle, where he scored 38 points in the county championship game as an eighth-grader. … After a three-year absence, Dacula has made the state tournament the past two seasons. The first trip came in B.J. Roy’s final season as head coach and then it made it last season under Triaga, who was an assistant to Roy before being promoted. Triaga was a head coach previously for nine seasons at both North Oconee and Chestatee.

FAST FACT: The Falcons’ state tournament was over quickly last season thanks to a tough first-round pairing with powerful Wheeler. They were outscored 24-8 in the first quarter by Wheeler, but played tough the rest of the way in a 71-56 loss.
