WINDER — Barrow County is looking for submissions nominating local children with a servant’s heart.
The Servant’s Heart Award, presented by the Georgia Children’s Cabinet, recognizing youth making differences in their local community through volunteerism. Following the Nov. 25 deadline for entries, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners will chose one local youth — ages 12 to 18 — to represent the county in the statewide competition.
Nominees must, among other qualifications, engage in “the creation, organization and/or mobilization of volunteers, groups and resources that are involved in projects benefitting the greater community. Those interested must send in a one-page submission answering the following questions about their nominee:
• In what ways do their volunteer and community service efforts encompass “with a servant’s heart?”
• What impact have they had on their community?
• How has volunteerism changed their lives?
Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Nov. 25 and can be sent to Michelle Thrasher, Barrow County Board of Commissioners, 233 East Broad St., Winder, GA, 30680.
The winner of the state competition will be honored on the Governor’s Office for Children and Families website and take a photo with Gov. Nathan Deal, First Lady Sandra Deal and their county commissioners.
