AUBURN — A challenger has unseated one of two incumbent Auburn City Council members, according to unofficial election results.
Robert Vogel III and William B. Ackworth were the top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s election.
Vogel has served on the council for four years alongside Donna Scouten, an eight-year council veteran who was ousted by Ackworth. Vogel received 123 votes, followed by Ackworth with 102 votes.
“That’s great news,” Ackworth said Tuesday night when told of his win. “It’s quite a surprise. Basically all I can say is it makes me very happy. I plan on doing my best to serve the city of Auburn and I’ll be happpy to work with Mr. Vogel.”
Just seven votes separated Ackworth and Jay Riemenschneider, who received 95 votes. Scouten and former Auburn mayor Atkeson “Harold” Money received 84 and 40 votes, respectively.
