Drivers ID'd, charges possible in fatal head-on crash near Grayson

Possible charges are still being explored in a fatal weekend crash.

According to Gwinnett County police, Loganville resident Thomas Embry was driving his pickup truck west on U.S. Highway 78 at about 10:30 p.m. Friday night when he veered into oncoming traffic. Near the highway’s Grayson intersection with Haynescrest Drive, Embry’s truck slammed headfirst into the Nissan Quest being driven by 40-year-old Ulawnda Lewis.

Lewis, a Snellville resident, died at the scene.

A passenger in the minivan, believed to be Lewis’ 17-year-old son, was transported to the hospital with a head laceration. Embry also complained of injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Investigators do not believe alcohol to be a factor in the collision. Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Monday that possible charges against Embry were still being investigated.
