Chance, Collins Hill softball move into championship round

COLUMBUS — Collins Hill struck for three early runs, which Amanda Chance made stand up for a 4-1 over Harrison in the winner's bracket finals of the Class AAAAAA State Softball Tournament in a game that began late Friday night and crept into Saturday morning at the South Commons Softball Complex.

The win puts the Eagles (28-5) into Saturday's championship round, where they will await either Harrison, Brookwood or Lassiter for a chance at their fourth state title in the last four years beginning at 1 p.m.

Jaime Hoover put Collins Hill in front to stay with her solo home run leading off the top of the second, while Tyra Holiday and Brea Dickey each added an RBI single later in the inning to extend the lead to 3-0.

That was plenty of support for Chance (17-3), who allowed just five hits and one earned run and struck out seven in the complete-game victory.

Chance also went 2-for-4 at the plate, as did Hoover and Dickey.
