SUWANEE -- Tom Klatt makes industrial brushes.

The Suwanee man has been in business since 1998 in Gwinnett County, making his living building and selling brushes of all sizes -- weighing anywhere from two ounces to two tons.

"I've loved designing and solving problems from a very young age," said Klatt, whose brushes are used all over -- from bakeries to steel mills.

He's one of many local and state business owners who will be in attendance at next week's Georgia Manufacturing Expo at the Gwinnett Center, where visitors can learn about starting their path to a career in manufacturing.

Tickets are free for those who pre-register online at www.georgiamanufacturingexpo.com. They're $10 at the door. According to its website, the June 8 event is family friendly and parents are encouraged to bring their children.

Klatt, for one, said he's excited to be among those exhibiting at the expo.

"It's good for the economy, and it's good for America," Klatt said. "Without manufacturing it's hard to create jobs that pay well enough to support families."

Klatt has continued to support his family with his business, which has been in Gwinnett County going on 15 years.

A typical customer, he said, is a business or an engineer at a business that needs a specialty brush for their operations. "We help them design the right brush to fit their needs," he said.

He and many others will be on hand at the expo to explain their business function and the niche they've carved out in the manufacturing industry.

Doors open on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gwinnett Center, located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth.
