LAWRENCEVILLE -- Need something to do Friday night? On a budget? Look no further than the first free performance of the Lawrenceville Tourism and Trade Association's Moonlight and Music Concert Series with salsa and Latin jazz group Grogus.
The concerts begin at 8 p.m. on the lawn of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. The series runs on the last Friday in the months of May to September. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnics for a night under the stars.
"Moonlight and Music Concert Series is an annual tradition in Lawrenceville," said Barbie Porter, event coordinator at LTTA. "The concerts are a great way to enjoy the summer. They allow families, couples and groups to relax and experience what downtown Lawrenceville has to offer -- great music, unique shops and a wide variety of restaurants."
Friday's act, Grogus, was formed in 1995 as a side project of award-winning jazz quartet Squat. Since then, the Athens-based group has won the Flagpole Athens Music Award in both the Jazz and World Music categories.
Although the series is free, there are reserved tables available for six that can be rented beginning at $65 by contacting the Lawrenceville Visitors Center at 678-226-2639. The lawn and table seating are available starting at 6 p.m. For more information about the series, visit www.visitlawrenceville.com.
