DULUTH -- Officials with Gwinnett County Public Schools said farewell this week to longtime employees.
More than 500 Gwinnett County Public Schools employees were honored Tuesday during an annual retirement luncheon at the Gwinnett Center Arena Grand Ballroom.
The educators and support staff members are retiring after teaching students in the classroom, driving them to and from school, serving them meals, guiding and counseling them and proving support and resources to them.
In total, the 2012-13 retirees have contributed a collective 12,590 years of their lives to education and a total of 9,725 years to Gwinnett schoolchildren.
About 44 percent of the retirees have worked their entire careers with Gwinnett County Public Schools. Among this year's retirees, 183 have 30 or more years of service in education, 18 have invested 40 or more years and one retiree (Carolyn G. Lee, Norcross Elementary) has 48 years in education.
