ATHENS -- Former University of Georgia president Charles Knapp will lead the college's business school for the next year.

Knapp, who served as UGA president from 1987 to 1997, will be interim dean of the UGA Terry College of Business for the 2013-14 fiscal year following the halt of a search for a permanent dean after finalists were announced, according to The Athens Banner-Herald.

"(Knapp's) record of leadership in higher education and his strong ties to the business community will position the Terry College for continued success in the coming year," said UGA senior vice president for academic affairs and provost Jere Morehead in a press release.

Morehead will become UGA president on July 1 after Michael Adams steps down. Adams followed Knapp in the UGA presidency.

More than $400 million in new construction was completed during Knapp's decade as UGA president. He also oversaw a major capital campaign, reported the Banner-Herald.

A new search for a permanent dean begins this fall.
