LAWRENCEVILLE -- Images of naked young boys cycled through the screensaver on Richard Cabell IV's computer as police executed a search warrant at his apartment last week. Authorities said the 70-year-old Lawrenceville man later admitted having molested two children as well.

Acting on a warrant stemming from prior investigations, a Gwinnett County police officer responded to Cabell's Herrington Woods apartment on May 22. Cabell was not home and the officer let himself in after obtaining a key from the complex.

"Located in the corner near the kitchen was a computer desk with a desktop computer and monitor," the officer wrote in his report. "The computer was running and screen saver was active on the monitor ... The pictures cycling through on the screen saver were all of young boys, mostly posed either naked or in underwear."

Under the guise of being a worker for the apartment's maintenance company, the officer reportedly called Cabell and told him there was an emergency.

When Cabell arrived back home he agreed to speak with the officer. He allegedly admitted to downloading online files of child pornography for over a year, and referenced an older computer that "likely" had similar files on it as well. He said he "would never actually hurt a child, only to pause and then consider, "Well, I guess unless he wanted it,'" the officer wrote.

Cabell, who was arrested in 2009 on deposit account fraud charges, then allegedly confessed to having molested two 10-year-old boys on multiple occasions.

According to incident reports, Cabell said both of the boys had lived near his apartment on Stillwater Drive in Duluth.

Two computers, a digital camera and a hard drive were seized from Cabell's home. Cabell was arrested May 22 and charged with a single count of sexual exploitation of a child. Jail records show he is being held without bond.
