NORCROSS -- Need something to do this weekend? Look no further than Norcross. The city is hosting two events suitable for the entire family in Thrasher Park.
Friday, Terry Lee & The GT's kick off the 2013 Summer Concert Series. Between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., the public is invited to grab chairs and blankets, a picnic and drinks (no glass allowed, though) to lay in the grass for a free show of rock 'n' roll covers, party favorites and classic tributes.
Tables are available for rent for the evening, if sitting in the grass isn't your thing. A table of six is $60 per concert and eight people is $70. To reserve a spot, call the city of Norcross' Parks and Rec Department at 678-421-2000 or 678-421-2010.
The next show is June 7 with Bridges, an Eagles cover band.
The concerts are CAN DO events, so attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food to the event. All of the collected items will be donated to local food pantries.
On Saturday, Rock Tenn, RTC Packaging and Kingdom Kids have joined forces for a jam-packed day of strawberries. To start the day, there is a chip-times 5K run and stroll to benefit Kingdom Kids, a Suwanee-based charity that helps improve quality of life for children with challenging medical issues.
For the rest of the event, attendees have a chance to browse through the artists' market and children can participate in several activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oh, and there are strawberries to eat -- lots of strawberries. Chefs from local restaurants are creating strawberry-inspired dishes for the day.
