If this -- the first great movie 2013 -- indeed turns out to be director Steven Soderbergh's final effort, he certainly went out on top. Owing a great deal to Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Lumet, the movie is a psychological drama that plays out more like an espionage thriller. Jude Law stars as a Manhattan psychiatrist assigned to examine a disturbed woman (Rooney Mara) who may have just committed murder. Offering up an Oscar-caliber performance as another shrink, Catherine Zeta-Jones goes full-tilt creepy without straying into self-parody. The extras are nothing to speak of but the visuals and audio are beyond superb.
