DOT suspends lane closures for the holiday

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Residents ready to celebrate the start of the summer should have an easier time with traffic this weekend, thanks to a road construction holiday.

The Georgia DOT is suspending construction-related closures on the interstates during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

While heavy traffic is expected as people travel for vacations and other plans, state officials said road crews would be out of the way beginning noon, Friday, May 24 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 28. Crews may still be working in proximity to the highways, though, they said, urging caution.
