BUFORD -- A former employee of a Buford apartment complex is wanted for allegedly stealing and re-cashing old rent checks written by Atlanta Falcons superstar Julio Jones and a former teammate.

According to Gwinnett County police arrest warrants issued last week, Corey Dajohn Moody, 29, was an employee at the Preserve at Mill Creek apartments, located at 1400 Mall of Georgia Blvd., last summer when he stole a few used rent checks from office files.

Earlier this year, Moody allegedly altered the check numbers, cashed one (written for $1,243.60) and attempted to deposit another (written for $1,500) via a smartphone app. Authorities were alerted after Chase Bank notified the apartment complex's manager that "two of her checks had been passed after they had been scanned on the Preserve account."

Those checks reportedly belonged to Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones and former teammate Christopher Owens, now a cornerback with the Cleveland Browns. It was unclear if either man lived or lives at the apartments -- with rents ranging from about $800 to $2,000 -- or was making payments for friends or family.

Jones purchased a $1.25-million mansion on Camp Branch Road in Buford last month, a fact made public Tuesday after a man doing foundation work at the home became trapped after a retaining wall collapsed. The construction worker was pinned down for more than an hour before being rescued by members of the Gwinnett County fire department.

Gwinnett County jail records showed that, as of Wednesday afternoon, Moody had not yet been detained on the two counts of theft by receiving filed against him. His last known address was on Castor Drive in Norcross.
