Officials expect delays due to work on I-985

BUFORD -- Overnight work on Interstate 985 is expected to cause delays through June.

State transportation officials asked motorists to avoid the interstate's merge with Interstate 85 during the coming weeks, as crews plan to work on weeknights to maintain old slabs of concrete.

This week, crews will work Monday through Thursday, weather permitting, from 9 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning, on I-985 northbound. The work will occur at the interstate's juncture with I-85 for two miles north. The right or outside lane will be closed for concrete slab maintenance. One lane of I-85 north will be closed as it approaches I-985 allowing traffic to shift out of the work area.

If all goes well, work will shift to I-985 southbound next wee, officials said.

The overnight schedule is expected to continue through the end of June.

Just wait till the County starts "rebuilding" that intersection to add a toll lane! That next stretch of toll lane will be the biggest loser per mile of cost. It is never that crowded to warrant a toll road, which again, the taxpayer has already paid for once.
