ATLANTA -- Kroger's Atlanta Division -- which includes Georgia, South Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and Northern Alabama -- will donate a total of $168,300 in grants to 79 Atlanta city, metro-Atlanta and surrounding area schools as part of its 2012-2013 "Earning Plus Learning" program.
The annual contest invited schools from across the Division to creatively describe their efforts to "Go for the Gold" throughout the school year in terms of diversity, nutrition, exercise, fair play and helping others.
"We are proud to reward these deserving schools for their dedication and hard work," said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications for Kroger's Atlanta Division. "Kroger is committed to education, and we hope these funds serve as a reflection on the students and staff that have worked tirelessly to improve the metro Atlanta and surrounding area educational systems."
Of the 79 schools receiving grants across Barrow, Bartow, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Fayette, Floyd, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Henry Counties, 27 were awarded with monies ranging from $1,800 to $6,000. Local schools included:
-- Beaver Ridge Elementary
-- Creekland Middle School
-- Dacula Elementary
-- Duluth Adventist Christian
-- Jackson Elementary
-- St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School
