Fundraiser established in memory of sheriff's deputy

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A nonprofit fundraising organization is asking for donations to the family of a Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy who died last week.

Oscar Batista died on May 9, and was escorted to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday to be laid to rest in New York, according to a Facebook post on the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Honor Guard page. Batista is survived by his wife and four children, ages 13, 5, 2 and six weeks.

Project LEO, which stands for Law Enforcement Officer, a division of Georgia Ethics Inc., has established a charitable fundraiser to help the family.
