This is not the brilliant 2007 remake starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale but rather the even better 1957 original featuring Glenn Ford as captured outlaw Ben Wade and Van Heflin as struggling farmer Dan Evans. Based on an early work by Elmore Leonard, "3:10" was not the kind of mainstream Western Hollywood was churning out at the time and its complex character-driven plot and moral ambiguity initially threw people for a loop. The new Criterion edition overhauls the once-murky black and white stock and renders it with crisp clean lines and stunning clarity.
