BUFORD -- Mall of Georgia will open its doors to the community as a host site Memorial Day weekend for an American Red Cross Blood Drive.
The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. May 25-27 in the upper level near Dick's Sporting Goods.
According to statistics from the American Red Cross:
-- Someone needs blood every two seconds in the United States.
-- Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
-- Type O is the most requested by hospitals.
-- More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.
-- About 60 percent of the nation's population is eligible to donate, yet only 5 percent actually does.
All donors at the blood donations drive will receive an American Red Cross T-Shirt while supplies last. Every donor also will be entered into a regional raffle. Five donors will win a $1,000 gift card.

Vaccination clinic to be held Saturday
NORCROSS -- A vaccination clinic is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Camp Woof, 4590 Buford Highway, Norcross, to benefit the Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The following services will be available for pets:
-- Canine and feline rabies shot, $10.
-- Canine and feline distemper shot, $10.
-- Canine bordetella shots, $10.
-- Canine heartworm test, $25.
-- Microchip, $25.
-- Combo test, $25.
All dogs should be on leashes, and all cats should be in carriers at the event. If an animal has had a reaction to vaccinations in the past, it is best that they see their regular veterinarian.
Local author signing books Saturday
SUWANEE -- A book signing for a local author is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble in Norcross.
Cumming resident Leigh Ann Linn will sign copies of her book, "Drowsy Eels on Banana Peels."
According to a release from Tate Publishing, "Drowsy Eels on Banana Peels" is a story that "will capture your child's imagination and show them the fun to be had in everyday life. They will learn how to rhyme words and grab onto a story with enthusiasm and curiosity."
The store is located at 5141 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross.
