Gwinnett Dugout Club honors best in high school baseball

Grayson's Austin Meadows and Mill Creek's Cody Pugh took home this season's top awards in the Gwinnett Dugout Club's 22nd annual banquet, held Monday night at Greater Atlanta Christian.

Meadows was voted player of the year by the county's baseball coaches and Pugh was named the club's pitcher of the year.

South Gwinnett's Steve Teschner was selected as coach of the year, and also was honored for reaching the 100-win milestone. Grayson's Bryan Tolbert, Norcross' Reggie Stancil, Peachtree Ridge's Tedd Sims, Providence's Jeff Stidham and South's Willie Carter earned assistant coach of the year awards.

The club handed out a number of special awards, including the Hall of Fame inductions of longtime Central Gwinnett coach Mark Kimbro, former Collins Hill players Justice French and Justin Earls, and former North Gwinnett player Mitch Rider.

GAC coach Cliff Shelton was recognized for his long-running dedication to Gwinnett baseball, and Mill Creek coach Doug Jones was honored for reaching 300 career wins. Daily Post sports writer David Friedlander also received a Friend of Baseball award for his coverage of Gwinnett high school baseball.
