WINDER -- Barrow County residents have one more chance to help local firefighters "give burns the boot."
Representatives from Barrow County Emergency Services will be out and about on Friday for the final collection date of their annual fundraiser to help the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and Camp Oo-U-La, Georgia's only camp for burn-injured children. Firefighters will be at various locations to accept donations in symbolic boots.
"We are asking that citizens donate as much as possible," Lt. Ernest Weant, who is coordinating the effort, said. "No matter how big or small the donation, every donation helps."
The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation's mission is to "educate the public in burn awareness and prevention, support medical facilities in the care of burns in Georgia, and assist burn survivors in their recovery." Camp Oo-U-La, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, is hosted as Fort Yargo State Park.
Barrow officials have collected funds each of the previous two Fridays.
