North's McDavid, Anderson shine in college softball

North Gwinnett grads Alex McDavid and Alexis Anderson were named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference in fastpitch softball this week, while McDavid earned the league's top individual honor.

McDavid, a sophomore third baseman at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, leads the OVC with a .699 slugging percentage while ranking second in batting average (.420) and runs batted in (43). She has hit 10 home runs this year with a league-leading nine of them coming in OVC play and drove in 31 runs and scored 22 times in league action, which ranks first in the OVC. She becomes the first Cougar to earn OVC Player of the Year honors.

Anderson, a junior outfielder at Southeast Missouri, also was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team after transferring from Tallahassee Community College. She hit .403 this season, including a league-best .500 in OVC play, with eight home runs and 26 RBIs.
