LAWRENECEVILLE -- The man who led police on a chase driving an allegedly stolen Krispy Kreme truck in February was indicted this week by a Gwinnett County grand jury.
Indictments were returned against James Freddy Major, 45, of Lawrenceville for theft by taking, two charges of fleeing or attempting to elude, two charges of DUI and one count of obstruction. At the time of the incident, he was charged with three felonies, three misdemeanors and seven traffic violations.
The indictment also said Major was "running away on foot after being commanded to stop."
During the heist, a police report said Major led police from a Dacula gas station on Ga. Highway 316 to Interstate 85, where he sped up, and refused to pull over in the box truck.
Major then ran a red light after he exited off 85 at Beaver Ruin Road while he reportedly accelerated up to 70 mph while driving erractically and leaving the roadway several times. He then he a hit a mailbox before he tried to flee on foot, the report said.
Major ultimately was caught by a K9 dog bite. Records show it was his 11th arrest in Gwinnett since 1999.
