Robert Dayton Shafer
Robert Dayton Shafer, known fondly as Robbie, 55, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Dowell-Shafer. He is survived by his daughter, Katie Shafer, of Dallas, GA; father, Charles E. Shafer, of Alpharetta, GA; brothers, Charles E. Shafer, Jr. (Janice) of Loganville, GA; David H. Shafer (Cindy) of Cumming, GA; Gerald Shafer (Suzanne) of Grayson; and sister, Grace Shafer, of Asheville, NC, and several nieces and nephews, along with other family and many friends.
Robert was born in Duluth, GA on May 24, 1957. He graduated from Berkmar High School in 1976. He was also a member of The Sweetwater Masonic Lodge No. 421.
Robert was married to Nancy Tumlin Shafer on June 17, 1978. They were married for 18 years and had a daughter, Katie, whom he adored.
Robert was the owner of Robert Shafer Construction for 30 years. His love for his craft and workmanship, passed down to him from generations of homebuilders, were evident in his many projects through the years.
He enjoyed golfing, spending time at the beach and activities with family and friends. Robert was also a devoted UGA athletics supporter and avid Georgia Bulldog Fan.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made, in memory of Robert, to The American Diabetes Association. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, 770-277-4550.
