LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett Medical Center announced on Wednesday the creation of an office of research for its hospitals in Duluth and Lawrenceville that officials said would coordinate, support and consult with doctors and staff.

GMC President and CEO Phil Wolfe said it was critical to promote better outcomes in health and provide the community with more health options. The new director of the office is Holly Richards, who previously worked as a director of clinical operations and quality assurance with Cambridge, Mass.-based Genocea Biosciences.

A press release said Richards has more than 20 years of experience in clinical research operations and administration.

Wolfe said the office of research would focus on regulatory and financial aspects of conducting research as it relates to doctors and staff. The office would also provide administrative oversight of research studies by the Center for Cancer Care.

"Ms. Richards' knowledge of all aspects of research and development, coupled with her experience as it relates medical administration and her strength in managing the coordination between the hospitals, doctors and patients will help us reach our end goal of offering alternative medical resources to our patient community in Gwinnett," Wolfe said.
