Why is it everything associated with lanier islands is expensive. When they took over several public campgrounds the rates doubled and two day minimum. $38 to go camping for one night keeps the locals away.

Lake Lanier Islands is so expensive because they are trying to make back the money that was put into it. Every family that I have talked to that has given the updated area a try has not been that impressed. In my opinion they are trying to entice too many demographics and it is just not working. Way overdone and the prices are just not worth it for the crowds and people that go there.

Would rather spend a bit more and go to Reynold's Plantation at Lake Oconee and be in better surroundings without the drunken party atmosphere. Different strokes but my money is better spent elsewhere.

I'm curious as to how Lake Lanier properties has been able to purchase public campgrounds. Public campgrounds Shady Grove and Shoal Creek were sold to private interests of Lake Lanier properties. Probably others I missed. How can this be legal?

We as a family of four stopped going to the Islands many years ago when you were not permited to take a packed lunch or your own drinks. They basically said that you can not bring anything in and that you must purchase your food and drink from that over priced concessions at the park. These concessions did not offer anything worth the price of admission. It is to expensive for our family along with Stone Mountain. White Water is a better place to go. The taxpayer built this facility but a private company is getting tha profits.
