NORCROSS — A neighbor’s concern over shouting in a nearby apartment reportedly led police to hundreds of grams of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Gwinnett County police were originally called to Ivey Brook Apartments — near the Norcross intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Peachtree Corners Circle — early on the morning of April 23 after a neighbor reported “a lot of screaming” in a nearby unit. The responding officer encountered 24-year-old Daniel Leon upon knocking on the door of apartment 921.

“I asked Daniel if there were any problems inside the apartment and Daniel had looked down on the ground and did not reply,” the officer wrote in an incident report. “I asked Daniel again the question and Daniel replied saying, ‘Nothing is wrong,’ in a very defensive worried tone.”

According to police, he had good reason to be worried.

Authorities eventually gained entry to the apartment, which Leon claimed was leased to his brother, and began a search. In various spots around the apartment, they reportedly found a treasure trove of drugs, including: an estimated 484 grams, or not quite half a kilogram, of cocaine; 114 grams of methamphetamine; about 225 grams, or not quite half a pound, of marijuana; seven ounces of liquid morphine; and 53 “white oval pills.”

Police also seized a Bushmaster assault weapon, a vacuum seal machine and several hundred dollars in cash, at least 40 of which were counterfeit.

Leon was arrested at the scene and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, marijuana possession, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon during a crime and three misdemeanors.

On Wednesday, authorities determined that the apartment was leased to Jasmine Antreece Abram. Abram was also arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a weapon during a crime and two misdemeanor drug charges.

Both suspects are being held without bond.

Nosy or conderned neighbors can be a good thing. The apartment management should consider rewarding this renter. Quietly of course
