PREP ROUNDUP: Lanier's Ramsay one-hits Chestatee in 7-0 shutout

GAINESVILLE -- Matthew Ramsay of Lanier allowed one hit in the first inning and nothing else as the Longhorns blanked Chestatee 7-0 in Region 8-AAAA action.

Ramsay finished the night with six strikeouts while not walking anyone as Lanier improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the region.

He also helped himself at the plate with a 2-for-4 night, including two doubles, and three RBIs. T.J. Richardson and Kristoff Rietig also added two hits each and drove in a run, while Trenton Little finished 2-for-4.

Lanier held a slim 1-0 lead until the sixth inning when the Longhorns broke it open with four runs.

BASEBALL

P.C. Roberson 2, Grayson 1

CARY, N.C. -- Grayson starter Taylor Allum did not give up any hits and struck out six on Friday night but was still charged with the loss as the Rams fell 2-1 to P.C. Roberson in the National High School Invitational.

Chris Erwin and Jack Banda had two hits each for the Rams (8-7), while Austin Meadows had a hit. Grayson will play Eustis (Fla.) today.

Parkview 20, Shiloh 2

SNELLVILLE -- Parkview plated nine runs in the top of the fifth to close out a 20-2 win over Shiloh in five innings on Friday night in a Region 8-AAAAAA game.

Jarrett Hood led the onslaught, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, while Hunter Thornton finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer.

Trevor Brown added a single and a double, while Josh Hart had a 3-for-3 night with an RBI and four runs.

Mac Marshall (3-1) was the winning pitcher, going four innings with one earned run on one hit with seven strikeouts. J.T. Chamblee pitched one inning in relief, with one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.

Archer 7, Dacula 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer notched a win in Region 8-AAAAAA on Friday night by beating Dacula at home 7-2.

Archer scored five runs in the first two innings off starter Gage Murray, who lasted just two innings with five runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Tyler Crumley had a double and an RBI for Dacula (5-9, 2-3), while Nick Mollica went 2-for-3. Josh Bullock and Henry Mesa also each had a hit.

Mountain View 4, Norcross 1

NORCROSS -- Beau Blair delivered six strong innings on Friday night, giving up one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts, as Mountain View beat Norcross 4-1 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Garry Gwaltney pitched the seventh for the save, giving up just one hit.

The offense was led by Brad Weaver, who had two hits and two RBIs, while Alex Dedels added an RBI. Mountain View improved to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the region.

Mill Creek 8, Habersham 1

MOUNT AIRY -- Bryan Hudson of Mill Creek delivered two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice to help the Hawks 8-1 over Habersham Central on Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Brandon Harmon also helped the offense with two hits, three stolen bases and a run, while Clinton Davis had a double with two RBIs.

Cody Pugh anchored the pitching for the Hawks (9-5, 2-0) with six innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts.

Peachtree Ridge 3, Collins Hill 0

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge received a strong pitching performance on Friday night as the Lions posted a 3-0 shutout over Collins Hill in a Region 7-AAAAAA clash.

Jonathan Hudson started and gave six scoreless innings in recording the win, allowing three hits and striking out five. Tyler Haswell followed and retired the side in the seventh for the save.

Tyler Chaney went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the offense, driving in one run on a single and the other on a ground out. Jared Stedman also helped with an RBI double, while Blake Best added a hit.

The win improved the Lions to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the region.

Collins Hill (3-10, 0-2) also received a solid start from Nate Williams, who went five innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs on two hits.

North 5, Duluth 3

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second against Duluth on Friday night as the Bulldogs went on to a 5-3 win.

Tucker Baca (1-0) pitched a complete game for the win, giving up one earned run on just two hits, striking out 10 along the way.

The offense for North was led by Blake Sangster, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Michael Haynes also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Brady Powell finished with two hits and one RBI.

North improved to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Buford 7, West Hall 0

GAINESVILLE -- Buford collected 15 hits on offense Friday night as the Wolves blanked West Hall 7-0 in Region 7-AAA.

Jake Higginbotham had four of those hits, while Joey Bart went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jake Mayo and Patrick Burnette also helped with two hits each.

Russell Klein started and picked up the win, going 4 shutout innings and allowing just three hits. Kayden Berrett came in the game in the fifth with one out and the bases loaded and wiggled out of the jam as he threw the final 2 innings with just one hit.

Hebron 1, Towns Co. 0

HIAWASSEE -- Hebron only scored one run on Friday night, but starter Jake "Phosh" Hershman made it stand as the Lions held on for a 1-0 win at Towns County.

Hershman, a freshman who was making just his second varsity start, was nearly perfect as he gave up just one hit.

Lew Stephens had the lone RBI for Hebron (6-6, 5-2), driving in Robby Stephens in the top of the sixth.

GIRLS SOCCER

Meadowcreek 5, Clarke Central 1

NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek evened its record at 6-6 on Friday night with a 5-1 win at home over Clarke Central.

Rachel Hill and Hilda Trochez led the way with two goals each, while Mariam Martinez added one.

Buford 10, Banks Co. 0

BUFORD -- Eight different Wolves had either a goal or an assist on Friday night as Buford rolled to a 10-0 shutout at home over Banks County.Melissa Sullivan led the way with three goals, while Ann Schmidt and Ceely Coker each had two goals and an assist.

Tara Dambach pitched in with a goal and two assists, while Lina Perez and Caitlyn Dawkins each scored a goal. Kennedy Webster and Jessi Vaverka each finished with an assist, while the shutout went to keeper Janie Silva.

BOYS SOCCER

Meadowcreek 4, Clarke Central 2

NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek received two goals from Manuel Almendarez on Friday night as the Mustangs topped Clarke Central 4-2 in a non-region match.

Christopher Morgan and Jairo Velazquez rounded out the scoring for Meadowcreek (9-2) with one goal each.

Peachtree Ridge 3, Mountain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- David Mejia put in two goals in helping Peachtree Ridge to a 3-0 shutout over Mountain View on Thursday night in Region 7-AAAAAA action.

Jordan Davis added the third goal for the Lions (6-3, 2-2), while Rodrigo Landa and Cesar Adranzen each helped with an assist.

Buford 3, Banks Co. 0

BUFORD -- Jose Guifarro scored the first goal of his prep career on Friday night as part of Buford's 3-0 shutout at home over Banks County in Region 7-AAA.

Christian Lopez also had a goal for Buford (7-2, 2-2), while Matt Bonadies had a goal and an assist.

Zach Vickery earned the shutout at keeper, while Elias Gomez finished with an assist. Buford's defense also played well by not allowing any shots on goal

GIRLS LACROSSE

Grayson 11, Newnan 6

NEWNAN -- Austyn Gorski of Grayson put in four goals on Friday night in leading the Rams to an 11-6 win at Newnan.

Brooke Eberhart, Lyndsay Parris and Ashley Mistretta each added two goals for the Rams (7-3), while Shannah Pinkston scored one. Eberhart also had two assists with Parris delivering one.

Taylor Denton also turned in a solid night at keeper with 11 saves.

GAC 12, Gainesville 5

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian scored its first win in Area 3-AAAAA/A on Friday night by beating Gainesville 12-5, snapping a six-game losing streak in the process.

Liz Calhoun, Brittany Jhin, Laura Fazekas and Savanna McKellar each had two goals for GAC (2-8-2, 1-3), while Emma Gorman, Emily Clark, Charlotte Russo and Abby Gipson each scored one.

Jamie Lu earned the win at keeper with nine saves.
