SUWANEE -- District 3 School Board Member Mary Kay Murphy welcomed a group of hundreds to the school system's first area board meeting of the year Tuesday night.
Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks talked with the group about, among other things, the district's Academic Knowledge and Skills Curriculum, the eCLASS initiative, the new teacher evaluation system and the budget.
Released on Tuesday, the district's projected Fiscal Year 2014 budget of $1.7 billion mirrors the 2007 budget, Wilbanks said.
"We have just now gotten back to the 2007 numbers," Wilbanks said. "We've tried to make sure our budget continues to provide the best education for our students."
School board member Louise Radloff said the group of parents, teachers and administrators at Tuesday's meeting was "an amazing group. A school is only as good as the people want it to be, and you are amazing. We couldn't do it without your support."
District Representative Mary Kay Murphy thanked the crowd for coming out Tuesday.
"It's been a remarkable meeting," Murphy said. "I know you'll join me in celebration of the great things going on in our district in Gwinnett County Public Schools."
