DULUTH -- High schoolers as you prepare for college, you may be searching for ways to fund your education. For local artists, the Duluth Fine Arts League is providing three scholarships for students who will be majoring in the fine arts in the fall of 2013.
Scholarships will be awarded to the first, second and third place students in the amounts of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 -- but there are several requirements to receive the funds.
Students must be a high school seniors planning on majoring in the fine arts in college during the fall of 2013, must attend Duluth High School or any other high school as long as they live in Duluth with a zip code of 30096 or 30097, and must be a U.S. citizen.
When the DFAL says "fine arts," the organization defines that as music (choral, instrumental, strings, brass, woodwinds, piano and percussion), visual arts (art, graphic arts and photography) and performing arts (theater and dance).
All applications need to be turned in by March 30. Then students must show proof of college acceptance by April 26.
After students have passed these deadlines, interviews and performances will be scheduled for April 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Red Clay Theater in Duluth. The mandatory auditions are in front of judges as well as a live audience. The three winners will be determined from the audition and essay answers from the application.
Last year's winners were Andy Dang, Benjamin Calderon and Amanda Edwards.
