PREP ROUNDUP: Storm blank Athens Academy for fourth straight win

LILBURN -- Providence ran its winning streak to four in a row on Friday with a 2-0 shutout of Athens Academy.

Erich Stahl was the winning pitcher, going seven innings with two hits and six strikeouts.

Campbell Baldwin led the offense for the Storm (4-8, 4-1), going 3-for-3 and scoring a run in the first inning.

Max Broom also helped with a double and scoring in the third inning off a sacrifice fly from Matt James.

BASEBALL

Grayson 7, Archer 6

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson pushed one run across in the bottom of the seventh to come away with a 7-6 win over Archer on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Jack Banda hat a two-run single for the Rams (6-5, 3-2), while Oscar Valdez, Chris Erwin, Taylor Allum and Bryn Parten each added a hit, with Valdez scoring two runs.

Korey Anderson picked up the win in relief of Jon Briley, who struck out eight in 3 innings.

Sean Fitzpatrick led Archer (4-8, 1-2) with a double and two RBIs, while Curtis Terry added a solo home run.

Parkview 6, Dacula 1

LILBURN -- Parkview stayed unbeaten in Region 8-AAAAAA on Friday night with a 6-1 win at home against Dacula.

Mac Marshall (2-1) picked up the win on the mound, going 4 innings with one run on two hits, three walks with seven strikeouts. Sam McCoy followed with 2 scoreless innings with one hit in recording the save.

Hunter Thornton went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Panthers (7-2, 4-0) on offense, helped by Ryan Blanton, who had two doubles and an RBI.

Other contributors for Parkview were Jarrett Hood (3-for-4, RBI), Zach Langley (RBI triple) and McCoy (2-for-3).

M.J. Hawkins (0-3) started and went three innings for Dacula (4-8, 1-2), with two runs on seven hits and two walks in taking the loss. Austin Collins went 1-for-4 and drove in Dacula's lone run, while Nick Heamon and Dylan Brown each went 1-for-2.

Brookwood 9, Berkmar 4

LILBURN -- Brookwood topped Berkmar 9-4 on Friday night, improving its record to 7-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Jonathan White went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Broncos, while Colin Cotter and Brock Baughcum each had a hit with an RBI.

Jordan Dykes, who also went 2-for-4 at the plate, was the winning pitcher.

Norcross 10, Lanier 7

NORCROSS -- Norcross improved to 8-2 on the season with a 10-7 win over Lanier on Friday night in a non-region game.

Griffin Helms led the offense for Norcross, going 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs, while Zach Shirah reached base four times with a hit, two walks and a hit batsman in helping him steal one base and score two runs.

Jascanel Ferreras also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Joseph Wilber went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Others chipping in at the plate for Norcross were Trevor Craport (hit, run), Devin Geraghty (double, run) and Justin Henderson (double, RBI), while Brooks Butler (three innings, two hits, no runs) was the winning pitcher.

Buford 6, Fannin Co. 1

BUFORD -- Austin Upshaw pitched a complete game on Friday night, going seven innings with one run on three hits with 14 strikeouts as Buford beat Fannin County 6-1.

Jake Mayo was the top offensive player for the Wolves (9-1, 6-0) with two hits and two RBIs.

BOYS SOCCER

Collins Hill 1, Mountain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill improved to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mountain View.

Paul Ille scored midway through the second half off an assist from Juan Restrepo for the game's only goal.

Meadowcreek 1, Peachtree Ridge 0

NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek evened its Region 7-AAAAAA record at 2-2 on Friday night with a 1-0 win over Peachtree Ridge.

The goal from the Mustangs (7-2 overall) came in the first half from Jesus Chuy Bonilla.

Norcross 2, Habersham 0

MOUNT AIRY -- Florentin Diaz of Norcross scored two goals Friday night in helping the Blue Devils blank Habersham Central 2-0.

The win improved Norcross to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Duluth 2, North 1, SO

DULUTH -- Duluth and North needed penalty kicks to decide Friday's Region 7-AAAAAA match with the Wildcats taking a 2-1 win by outscoring North 5-4 during the shootout.

Duluth took a 1-0 lead in the second half off a goal from Carlos Delarosa, but North (4-3-2, 2-1) battled back to tie it at 1-1 with 15 minutes left in regulation when Josh Hoeft scored off an assist from Kian Pourak.

Ben Kucera came up big at keeper for the Wildcats (6-0, 2-0) during the penalty kicks with a save.

Berkmar 2, Parkview 1, SO

LILBURN -- Berkmar scored a Region 8-AAAAAA win on the road over its cross-town rival Parkview 2-1 on Friday night, edging the Panthers (4-6) with a 6-5 advantage on penalty kicks.

The Patriots (6-3-1, 4-0) received their regulation goal from Kofi Twumasi.

Brookwood 3, Archer 1

SNELLVILLE -- Three different players scored for Brookwood as the Broncos posted a 3-1 win at home over Archer on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Ebun Terry, Chris Costley and Alfredo Rivera each had a goal for Brookwood (7-2-1, 2-1), while Andy Harris and Nate Hopkins teamed up at keeper for the win.

South 2, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett bumped its Region 8-AAAAAA record up to 3-2 on Friday night by edging Shiloh 2-1.

John Pecos scored the first goal for the Comets, while the second goal came from Amar Salihic.

North Hall 3, Buford 1

GAINESVILLE -- Buford fell to North Hall on Friday night 3-1 in Region 7-AAA action.

Buford (6-3, 1-2) received its goal from Christian Lopez.

Hebron 10, Towns Co. 0

HIAWASSEE -- Cole Redman scored three goals and Ben Ungerer put in two more on Friday night in helping Hebron to a 10-0 rout at Towns County.

Bailey Pinto also had a good night with a goal and three assists, while Braden Elmer pitched in by scoring one goal and assisting two.

Joey Redman recorded the shutout at keeper for the Lions (8-2-1, 4-0).

Lakeview 2, Providence 0

GAINESVILLE -- Providence trailed 1-0 at the half and couldn't muster a comeback in the final 40 minutes as the Storm fell 2-0 at Lakeview Academy.

The loss dropped Providence to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in Region 8B-A.

Peachtree Ridge 6, Meadowcreek 0

NORCROSS -- Peachtree Ridge picked up its first win in Region 7-AAAAAA on Friday night with a 6-0 shutout at Meadowcreek.

Kinsey Dziwura had three goals and an assist to lead the Lions (2-5, 1-1), while Briana Bagnasco had a goal and two assists.

Brittnay Gonzales split time at keeper with Renita Patel in recording the shutout, while Allie Hoxie (goal), Esther Cano (goal), Jordyn Missel (two assists) and Sumer Culberson (assist) each contributed.

Collins Hill 5, Mountain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Top-ranked Collins Hill blanked Mountain View 5-0 on Friday night for a Region 7-AAAAAA win.

Desiree Bowen led the Eagles (9-1-1, 3-0) in goals with two, while Regan Wilhite led the team in assists with two. The three remaining goals were scored by Paige Hoover, Nicole Entinger and Emily Fancher.

Kelsey Lawrence, Dena Cisic and Paula Maldonado each helped with an assist, while the shutout was logged by keeper Halla Jibreen.

Duluth 2, North 1

DULUTH -- Duluth scored on a penalty kick by Becca Miller with about two minutes left to play to nip North Gwinnett 2-1 on Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Duluth (5-3, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead off a goal by Sarah Miller, but North (4-5, 2-1) tied the game in the second half when Taylor Burns scored off an assist from Katie Strand.

Norcross 3, Habersham 0

MOUNT AIRY -- Norcross improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Friday night with a 3-0 shutout at Habersham Central.

Hanna Shapiro, Jordan Lewter and Jordan Shapiro provided the offense for Norcross with one goal each.

Parkview 8, Berkmar 1

LILBURN -- Parkview freshman Katie Hickman recorded a hat trick on Friday night as the Panthers topped Berkmar 8-1 at home in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Five other Panthers (8-2) scored one goal each in Emma Carlson, Madison Ober, Kristin Telford, Camille Colston and Kiara Campbell.

Grayson 2, Central 0

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson blanked Central Gwinnett on Friday night 2-0 for a Region 8-AAAAAA win.

Amanda Baker scored the first goal for Grayson (9-1, 3-1), while the second goal came from Ella Stevens. The shutout went to keeper Tori Denton.

Brookwood 6, Archer 0

SNELLVILLE -- Kim Fincher scored a pair of goals on Friday night to help Brookwood to a 6-0 shutout over Archer in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Adding one goal each for the Broncos (9-3, 3-0) were Shannon Maloney, Jenny Allen, Michelle Allen and Marina Juric.

Kristen Rivers split time at keeper with Shelby Middleton in recording the shutout.

South 2, Shiloh 0

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett received two goals from Iman Williams on Friday night as the Comets nipped Shiloh 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Jazmyne Simon helped keep the Generals scoreless with five saves at keeper, while Sade Martin led the defensive attack.

Lanier 8, Lumpkin Co. 0

SUGAR HILL -- Lanier notched its fifth straight win on Friday night with an 8-0 shutout over Lumpkin County in Region 8-AAAA.

The offense was led by Andrea Araya, who scored four goals, while Tori Wyant followed with three goals and one assist.

Amy Groth scored the eighth goal for Lanier (7-4, 4-0), while Casey Wilkes, Roxy Amieva and Alyssa Santana each had an assist.

Groth and Maddie Corely also helped with two assists each.

Buford 9, North Hall 0

GAINESVILLE -- Elexa Bahr scored three goals on Friday night as Buford blasted North Hall 9-0 in Region 7-AAA play.

Ceely Coker also had a big game for the Wolves (10-0, 3-0) with two goals and three assists, while Melissa Sullivan, Brooke Horist, Mia Edmond and McKenna Harwood each scored a goal.

Jessie Vaverka tallied three assists, while Caitlyn Dawkins and Tara Dambach each dished one. Izzy Ortiz had the shutout at keeper.

Hebron 6, Towns Co. 0

HIAWASSEE -- Hebron keeper Lexi Kent recorded 15 saves on Friday night as the Lions shut out Towns County 6-0.

Bianca Clark led the offense with two goals and two assists, while Jordan Lowery, Sarah Boyd, Alex Probst and McKenzie Towe each scored one goal.

Hebron (9-1-1, 4-1) also had two assists from Boyd and one from Lowery.

Providence 7, Lakeview Academy 0

GAINESVILLE -- Savannah Flynn recorded three goals and one assist on Friday night in guiding Providence to a 7-0 shutout at Lakeview Academy. Robyn Lowndes also helped with three assists, while Brittany Tuttle finished with two goals.

Tori McKelvey and Emily Askew each added a goal as the Storm improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the region.

BOYS LACROSSE

North 22, MLK 1

SUWANEE -- Thirteen different players scored for North Gwinnett on Friday night as the Bulldogs blasted Martin Luther King 22-1.

Luke Printz led the way with five goals, while Nathan Howell and Tyler Ortolano each scored three.

North (7-1) also received two goals each from James Shimkus and Spencer Howey, while Zach Retsky had two saves at keeper.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 15, Christ Church 5

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Darby Frisbie logged four goals and an assist on Friday night to lead Peachtree Ridge 15-5 over Christ Church Episcopal in the Cavalier Patriot Classic Tournament.

Kayla Jones, Kristin Scheder and Sabrina Han each added three goals, with Jones dishing three assists and Scheder one.

The winning keeper was Izzy Ivory, who had 10 saves.

North 9, Whitewater 3

SUWANEE -- Lauren Aycock scored four goals on Friday night in leading North Gwinnett to a 9-3 win at home over Whitewater.

Skyler Tuholski added two goals and an assist for North (6-5, 1-0), while Keri Jo Hardaway scored a pair of goals.

Wesleyan 19, Darlington 10

ROME -- Wesleyan evened its record at 4-4 on Friday night with a 19-10 win at Darlington.

Courtney O'Leary had seven goals to lead Wesleyan, while Lindsay Moore scored five. Natalie Guenthert also added five assists, while Mary Cowart led the defensive play.

Rogers shoots Hebron to win over Providence

DACULA -- Brandon Rogers of Hebron took low-medalist honors with a 42 on Friday afternoon as the Lions topped Providence 191 to 245 at Trophy Club of Apalachee.

Hebron's Brooks stays unbeaten

DACULA -- Reece Brooks of Hebron improved her record to 6-0 on Friday afternoon by beating Providence 45 to 61 at Trophy Club of Apalachee.

BOYS TENNIS

Peachtree Ridge 3, Christ Church 2

ATLANTA -- Alex Peed and Cole Greeff combined for a doubles win on Friday night to lift Peachtree Ridge past Christ Church Episcopal 3-2 in the Buckhead Rotary Tournament at Westminster.

The Lions (8-3, 5-1) also received a No. 1 singles win from Alex Makarenko and a No. 3 singles win by Kevin Lim.
