Felicia Shelton drove in four runs over two games as the Georgia Gwinnett softball team raced its way to 8-0 and 12-4 victories over Talladega College (Ala.) on Thursday in Lawrenceville.
The Grizzlies used a one-hit performance in the opening game from freshman pitcher Ashley Beyke before belting five extra-base hits in Game 2 to extend a season-high six-game winning streak.
GGC improved to 9-16 on the year. The Grizzlies are 7-5 at home this season.
Beyke leveled her record at 7-7 by striking out 14 batters over the two games with just one walk.
Heaven Hinton smacked her second home run of the season while Halley Ingram had four total hits with two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
"We had a strong outing today from the whole team," Grizzlies head coach Kat Ihlenburg said. "We hit the ball very well, played great defense and Beyke really kept their hitters off balance."
The Grizzlies scored six times over the first two innings in the opener, which was more than enough support for Beyke, who yielded just a leadoff single before shutting down Talladega.
Ingram, Hinton and Jordyn Fones each had two hits in the game.
In game two, the Tornadoes pushed across two unearned runs in the opening frame for a 2-0 lead.
The Grizzlies came back with three scores in the second and four in the third to take a 7-2 advantage. Four doubles and Hinton's home run powered the Grizzlies to a 12-4 lead to end the game in the sixth inning.
Brittany Bruns added three runs on three hits for GGC on the day.
Georgia Gwinnett looks to continue its winning streak when it returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. in doubleheader action against Voorhees College in Lawrenceville.
