Georgia Tech’s Robert Carter, Jr., a Shiloh grad, has been named to the inaugural Coaches Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team, the conference office announced Monday.
The team was selected by the league’s 12 head coaches. Voting took place prior to last weekend’s ACC Tournament and was based on regular-season performance.
Boston College’s Olivier Hanlan, Duke’s Rasheed Sulaimon, NC State’s T.J. Warren, Wake Forest’s Devin Thomas, and North Carolina’s Marcus Paige also were named to the 2013 squad. None of the Tech freshmen made the media’s all-freshman team announced last week.
Carter ranks 12th among ACC rebounding leaders at 6.7 per game. He ranks second on the teams in scoring at 9.9 points per game while starting all 31 contests. Among the conference freshmen, the 6-foot-8 forward ranked second in rebounding and fifth in scoring.
In ACC games, Carter averaged a team-high 9.9 points, was second on the team with 6.5 rebounds per game, shot 44.6 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent on 3-pointers.
Hanlan, of Aylmer, Quebec, ranks fifth among ACC scorers at 15.4 points per game and scored in double figures in 28 games – including 16 of the Eagles’ 18 ACC games. Sulaimon, who has started 29 of Duke’s 32 games, ranks fifth on the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game. The native of Houston, Texas, has handed out 65 assists and is shooting 81 percent from the foul line.
Warren, of Durham, N.C., came on strong down the stretch and is averaging 12.4 points per game for the Wolfpack while leading the ACC in field goal percentage at 62.6 percent. Thomas emerged as an inside presence for Wake Forest, ranking sixth among conference rebounders at 7.5 per game blocked shots (43). The Harrisburg, Pa., native was the only freshman to rank among the ACC’s top 10 in both categories.
North Carolina’s Paige’s currently leads all ACC freshmen and ranks third overall in assists per game (4.7). The Marion, Iowa, native is averaging 8.0 point per game.
