Life of Pi Blu-ray
(PG-13)
Movie: 3 and 1/2 out of 4 stars
Disc: 4 out of 4 stars
Ang Lee deservedly won this years' Best Director Oscar for this sumptuous, engrossing and bittersweet fable/fantasy that has arguably made the finest use of 3-D technology to date. Based on the novel of the same name by Yann Martel, "Life of Pi" is a cerebral, more spiritual version of "Cast Away" minus the hokum. After surviving a shipwreck that claimed the lives of his entire family, Pi (played by three actors) spends months at sea while sharing close quarters with a Bengal tiger on a lifeboat. It's smart, soulful and suitable for mature children.
