LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials expect a big benefit to a quick fix on Ga. Highway 20 in Lawrenceville.
To pave a right turn lane from Ga. 20 west to Hurricane Shoals Road, crews have to close the outside travel lane overnight, beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday. But drivers will have access to the new turn lane, weather permitting, as soon as the lane reopens.
"The right turn lane will really improve the overall efficiency of SR 20 from SR 316 into Lawrenceville. We look forward to opening that to traffic Wednesday morning," Georgia Department of Transportation District Construction Engineer Harold Mull said.
The fix is a small portion of the $37.4 million construction project to convert intersections along Ga. 316 at Ga. 20 and Collins Hill Road into interchanges.
Mull reminded drivers that other overnight lane closures will occur on Ga. Highway 316, as crews work to recycle the dirt as they lower the original lanes of the highway.
"Lane closures lead to construction progress so thank you for living through them," Mull said.
