There are worse ways to spend a day off.
With Gwinnett County scheduling one of its furlough days for a spring Monday for the second year in a row, Brookwood will again host a Region 7-AAAAAA vs. Region 8-AAAAAA golf tournament at Summit Chase Country Club.
It's not a huge field for the 18-hole, stroke-play event, but it's a solid one.
The seven girls teams include Parkview, Dacula, Grayson, Brookwood, Mill Creek, Norcross and Duluth and the boys teams are Parkview, Dacula, Grayson, Brookwood, Mill Creek and Norcross.
"It's still going to be a good day. It's a good tournament, it's not that big of a field," said Brookwood golf coach and tournament organizer Steve Thompson. "The players that are going to be playing with each other are going to be playing with some good, quality players."
Last year the teams played a match-play event but with a bit smaller field it was adjusted to the typical high school stroke-play scoring. Thompson attributed the smaller field to the later start of the golf season and teams playing much busier schedules. But it's still a tough field with seven of the Gwinnett Post's 12 Super Six selections and deep competitive teams.
"Everybody said they enjoyed it and they wanted to do it again," Thompson said of last year's event. "Everybody that played had a great time."
