GAB: Contestants needed for Miss Suwanee pageant

SUWANEE -- Miss Suwanee's fourth annual Blue Jean -- White T-Shirt Pageant is scheduled for March 30 at the North Gwinnett High School auditorium. The event is a fundraiser for Relay for Life, sponsored by North Gwinnett High School.

Contestants raise money to capture the titles of Miss Heart of Suwanee and Miss Sweetheart of Suwanee as well as competing for division titles by real Miss America-certified judges.

Miss Suwanee has raised more than $41,000 for Relay for Life, and title holders have served more than 4,304 hours collectively.

The following categories will be judged: baby miss; miss; little miss; petite miss; young miss; junior miss; Mr. Suwanee; mother/daughter; father/daughter; boy/girl; girl/girl; junior teen miss; miss; supreme miss; Mrs. married; and classic 50-plus.

The last day to register is March 25.

Anti-bullying event to be held March 23

DULUTH -- An anti-bullying event is scheduled for March 23 in Duluth. All are invited to attend the free event.

It runs from 6 to 11 p.m. at Bethak Banquet Hall, 3099 Breckinridge Blvd., Duluth.

The gathering will feature refreshments, live entertainment, local celebrities and more. All parents must accompany minors to the event.

According to the news release, the anti-bullying rally is a "red carpet affair." No tennis shoes, boots or jeans allowed.

Sponsored by Nspired Images, Atlanta Caregiver and Associates and Terry McArthur studios, the event aims to "help save our youth from physical, mental, verbal, emotion distress because of being bullied."

Teacher appreciation program seeks nominations

DULUTH -- Georgia United has teamed up with Star94 to reward teachers who make a difference in the lives of students and their parents.

They are seeking nominations for any full-time teacher at an accredited public or private school in the state of Georgia who has inspired your child or children.

During the week of May 6, four winners will be selected to receive $500 each, plus $250 for their school. In addition, a grand prize winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship toward his or her continuing education studies. Winners also will be recognized with an award and lunch for the entire school staff at a recognition ceremony at their school.
