RIVERDALE — Children who have suffered burn injuries are invited to attend a special summer camp supported by Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services.

Capt. Walter Barber said any child age 7-17 who suffered an injury that required treatment or hospitalization at a Georgia burn center can attend Camp Oo-U-La free. This year’s camp will be held June 2-8 at Camp Twin Lakes Will-A-Way in Winder.

“Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services has long been a supporter of the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, which in addition to funding treatment and research for burn victims, hosts a summer camp exclusively for children that have been burned,” said Barber.

Camp Oo-U-La is the state’s only program designed exclusively for burn-injured children.

Children who are not residents of Georgia but have been treated or hospitalized in one of the state’s burn centers are also eligible to attend.

Camp staff is primarily comprised of volunteer fire service, burn survivors and allied health workers. The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation partners with Camp Twin Lakes, a nonprofit organization that offers year-round recreational, therapeutic and educational programs for children and young adults facing serious illnesses and other life challenges.
